Creative Ways to Exercise

It is important to exercise to stay fit and maintain a healthy weight. With jobs, families, side hustles and more, it can be difficult to find time to go the gym or have an established workout regimen. The truth is you don’t have to spend hours in the gym on expensive home equipment to get some exercise. It’s important to just move and increase your activity level. Here are some ways to do that.

Walk your dog. Even a few minutes of walking your dog around your neighborhood or the local park will help. As a bonus, your pooch will be extremely grateful.

Walk with family. Take a short walk with your kids or significant other to unplug from your devices and have a quality conversation.

Park in the back. Park at the far end of the parking lot and walk to the store or to your office. Just a few extra steps each day will add up quickly.

Take the stairs. Elevators are convenient, but they don’t help. Use the stairs to get your heartrate up for some very effective exercise.

Be less sedentary. Instead of sitting on the couch while you watch your favorite shows, walk or jog in place. Walk on a treadmill in your home or at the gym while watching TV or listening to your favorite tunes. Here are more exercises you can do at home with no equipment.

Get some deskercise. Purchase some hand weights and do bicep curls or overhead extensions while reading email or talking on the phone.

Get competitive. Instead of meeting friends for greasy pub food and drinks loaded with calories, meet your friends for a game of basketball, disc golf, volleyball or a group walk.

The point is to just move more. Take any opportunity you can find to be more active. A few steps, a longer walk across the parking lot, some easy exercises while watching TV – it all adds up. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym every day to work some exercise into your busy life.
